I never had a personal trainer before, but I’ve been going to the gym for years and I have observed and heard about how they work. I was worried that I would be overwhelmed with terminology and have a lot of restrictions on my diet. However, Todd was very honest from the get-go and he explained clearly what my training plan would involve and never made any promises. We set realistic goals and targets and demonstrated how this lifestyle could be easily maintained. Todd was always very approachable and I was never afraid to ask any questions or any advice. He was always very straightforward and honest with me. For example, if he didn’t know the answer to any questions I asked, he wouldn’t be afraid to admit that and would always come back with a well-researched answer. I was very worried to start hiring someone to train me, because I had experienced several knee dislocations in the past ten years and I had recently undergone knee surgery. He really took my physical limitations into consideration and really helped recover rapidly after my knee surgery. It’s been over two years since I last trained with Todd, and I am still training and using a lot of the information and exercises he taught me. My dream was to backpack around Australia and I wasn’t sure if it would come true, after my knee surgery, however that’s where I’ve been the past two years, and now I’m in New Zealand. And I was so proud that I managed to complete all the major hiked all around Australia and got to experience and see some of the most beautiful views, I’ve ever seen in my entire life and I believe this wouldn’t had been possible without Todd’s endless help and support. After injury I gained some serious weight... I started looking for trainers to improve the physical side of my football. Unfortunately they were all in for the money they only knew the very basics of nutrition and bio-mechanics in regards to football. I started to lose hope as none of them provided me the true ingredients I needed. My performance goal was to lose weight and to be to handle 90 minutes at professional level. Todd explains everything, the ins and outs of the body… the very minuscule details; he truly understands the art of being a passionate trainer. The reason I started working with Todd was that a friend recommended him to me; my friend knew I was losing hope in finding a real trainer and when he came across Todd he called me and told me about him. Coming to Todd I was very sceptical and hesitant due to previous experience but everything that my friend said about him was absolutely true! Todd explained everything, the ins and outs of the body… the very minuscule details that helped me understand what was happening and why. Todd is a very knowledgeable trainer and he matches my passion for the game, this is very important to me as coaches have to be on the same page as athletes. I have been working with Todd Davidson since my first year of university, where he provided bespoke training advice and support in my match preparation. As a Durham University sports scholar, I found his friendship, caring nature and enthusiasm to be a great support in hard times, and I always looked forward to our lifting and fitness sessions. Todd quickly became a friend and I have been privileged to see his coaching and teaching abilities only develop from year to year. When I first met Todd, I was looking to stay injury-free and improve my strength and speed, so that I could continue to be a physical and aggressive impact player on my lacrosse team. Since leaving university and hanging up my lacrosse boots, I have started Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Todd has provided a bespoke training program, as well as constant support. Todd is generous with both his time and expertise. If I have a question, I know that I can ask him and receive a prompt AND well-research answer. To put it bluntly, Todd does not beat around the bush. He provides well-informed and helpful advice, which can often cut to the heart of a problem. Todd cares about his athletes and clients, and he is unafraid to give tough love and difficult answers in order to protect and promote their wellbeing and long-term success. Todd is a curious and enthusiastic coach with a constant desire to deepen and refine his understanding. I trust his advice and have come to rely on his expertise since leaving university and encountering new fitness challenges, such as becoming a new father and balancing a hectic work schedule. Whilst I understood the basic concepts of fitness training, it was only when I met Todd and received good answers to my numerous questions, that I started to better understand how to avoid injury and plan my weight and speed training sessions for maximum benefit.

Prior to starting work with Todd, my son 11-year-old son Joe was experiencing tightness in certain muscle groups and weakness in his core strength. Joe’s chosen sport at the time was swimming and these issues were affecting his starts, his turns and his inability to get into a powerful position on the block. Todd was very good at explaining the benefits of the training programme he devised for Joe. Todd’s assessment process identified Joe’s weaknesses immediately and he tailored the programme accordingly. Todd successfully identified that Joe’s flexibility was limiting his starts and encouraged Joe to take responsibility for his own training by setting appropriate homework tasks in the form of exercises to be done at home. The sessions organised by Todd were fun, set at the right level in terms of the physical challenge and Joe’s starts improved much more quickly than I expected. Joe looked forward to the sessions and they helped him realise his weakness, strengths and where he could improve physically. Todd is a very good communicator with extensive knowledge of sport and fitness and an astute understanding of what makes athletes tick in a variety of sports.
